And then….
Happy first week of July neighbours …
Hope you are enjoying the beginning of the Summer months! This summer is looking to be full of events that we can all enjoy and celebrate in our community… and don’t forget our weekly Weston Village Farmers’ Market which is in its 45th year! Hours are 8:30am to 1pm and they are always looking for student volunteers to help out – they can get their volunteer hours!
Beginning next week on July 13/14, the summer is chock-a-block with our own Crossroads Theatre kicking it off with 3 entertainments planned. Their second presentation will be in conjunction with the Weston Silver Band (WSB) and is special for our community as the Band is celebrating their 100th anniversary this year! Starting from humble roots, the Band has won numerous awards around the world for their incredible sound. Sadly, they just lost one of their long-time members who was considered the ‘historian’ of WSB so it will be bittersweet when they play this summer. Let’s support both groups of artists who make Weston Village their home. See their attached poster with QR code to go to their website with links to register for the events. (P.S. they are also looking for volunteers to help on the days of their entertainments).
And sharing this message from the Humber River Pals about their next event which is also an anniversary!
<< Greetings River Keepers!
The Humber River Pals are gearing up to celebrate four years of dedicated stewardship with a special clean-up celebration on Saturday July 20, 11am – 3pm. We will kick off this event with a park clean-up, symbolizing our ongoing commitment to environmental care. Following this, we will host a zero waste community lunch at 12pm. Suanny will lead a hands on zero-waste workshop using embroidery to offer valuable insights for living more sustainably. There will be a conversation circle on environmental protection efforts in Weston and our vision for the future. Our friends at the Etobicoke Climate Action group will be onsite doing outreach and sharing their work.
We hope to show our gratitude to all River Keepers for their ongoing support and participation in our ravine clean-ups since May 2021. There will be face painting, music, games and raffles. Shout out to Cheels Wheels for supporting us with raffle prizes since 2021! Exclusive coupons from El Almacen will be provided to volunteers on a first come first serve basis. Please BYO: cup, cutlery and plate to enjoy refreshments and ensure minimal waste.
We invite all lovers of the Humber River to join us in commemorating our journey and shaping a more sustainable future together. Please feel free to share this event. See attached poster…
