Your WVRA along with other Residents’ Association in the new Ward 5 are hosting a Trustee Debate on Wed, October 3rd and a Councillor Debate on Wed, October 10th. See poster for details – come learn about the candidates!
Capping off the week before the August long weekend will be our own Weston Village Annual Neighbours’ Night Out! on Thursday, August 2nd and our theme for this year is: A Midsummer Night’s Dream! Along with the yummy burgers and hot dogs – still a toonie including a drink – we’ll have Frontlines serving dessert treats as their fundraiser for summer camp. And we are excited to have numerous other community partners joining us this year: sponsors Weston Lions and Luminous Financial will be having tables; Weston Minor Hockey will be offering information for sign up; Weston Road Runners will invite interested runners to join them; Options For Homes, who are building 10 Wilby, will be there with there information on the new development; and, Artscape along with UrbanArts and Shakespeare In Action will have a table to show off their new digs at 22 John St. Along with all these wonderful community partners, the Weston Historical Society will have their display so people can learn more about Weston! For the evening entertainment, we’ll have a craft table for the kids for mask making (keeping in the theme!) and Shakespeare In Action will be offering a workshop for all on Midsummer Night’s Dream … using rap!! And to cap off the night, we will be showing kid-friendly movie, ‘Strange Magic’ with free popcorn!
Buskerfest, hosted by the Weston Village BIA and your main street retailers, taking place on Saturday, July 28th beginning at 2pm and wrapping up at 6pm. There will be some earlier entertainment as well at the Weston Farmers’ Market from 9am to noon. Last year’s event, the first ever Buskerfest in Weston, was a huge success so they hope to have the same this year. The buskers are world-class and will include Weston’s own, Scott Jackson who is an award-winning beat-boxer. Super entertaining!
The next night on Sunday, July 29th is Theatre in the Park with the Driftwood Theatre Co. presenting their version of ‘As You Like It’ or ‘Rosalynde’ by Shakespeare in Little Avenue Memorial Park. Show begins at 7:30 but arrive early with a picnic to get a great seat! Last year’s show of ‘Othello’ was packed and it was great to see our lovely park well used.
Join the community in celebrating our great country down at Lions Park beginning at 5pm. Lots of activities and entertainment until the big show… always a great night!
Brought to you by:
Councillor Frances Nunziata
Weston Village Residents’ Association
City of Toronto Parks
Forestry & Recreation
Hope to see you there!!
This communication is to update you on the ongoing investigation of the illegal dispensary at 1608 Weston Rd, California Cannabis. As many of you have witnessed, the signage for California Cannabis has been reinstalled by the store owner this past week. The Councillor’s office was notified by residents in the area on Tuesday last week at which point they updated both Toronto Police Services, 12 Division and Municipal Licensing & Standards. An officer from Municipal Licensing & Standards confirmed that they had monitored the store over the weekend and customers were not given access into the store. They believe that the sign was reinstalled, but operation has not yet started. That being said, they will continue to monitor the location while they work with Toronto Police Services to obtain another warrant.
The Councillor’s office will continue to work with both Toronto Police Services, 12 Division and officers from Municipal Licensing & Standards to permanently close this dispensary. The WVRA will continue to keep on top of this issue and will advise our members when there is further news regarding it.
We have received the following email from Councillor Nunziata:
“Please join the upcoming rally that has been confirmed with 12 Division for Sunday, April 22nd at 2pm. We invite you to join the Councillor along with officers from 12 Division in front of 1608 Weston Road to protest against the ongoing business at the dispensary.”
The Weston Village Residents Association will be in attendance to support our Councillor and 12 Division. For more information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
