Capping off the week before the August long weekend will be our own Weston Village Annual Neighbours’ Night Out! on Thursday, August 2nd and our theme for this year is: A Midsummer Night’s Dream! Along with the yummy burgers and hot dogs – still a toonie including a drink – we’ll have Frontlines serving dessert treats as their fundraiser for summer camp. And we are excited to have numerous other community partners joining us this year: sponsors Weston Lions and Luminous Financial will be having tables; Weston Minor Hockey will be offering information for sign up; Weston Road Runners will invite interested runners to join them; Options For Homes, who are building 10 Wilby, will be there with there information on the new development; and, Artscape along with UrbanArts and Shakespeare In Action will have a table to show off their new digs at 22 John St. Along with all these wonderful community partners, the Weston Historical Society will have their display so people can learn more about Weston! For the evening entertainment, we’ll have a craft table for the kids for mask making (keeping in the theme!) and Shakespeare In Action will be offering a workshop for all on Midsummer Night’s Dream … using rap!! And to cap off the night, we will be showing kid-friendly movie, ‘Strange Magic’ with free popcorn!
Buskerfest, hosted by the Weston Village BIA and your main street retailers, taking place on Saturday, July 28th beginning at 2pm and wrapping up at 6pm. There will be some earlier entertainment as well at the Weston Farmers’ Market from 9am to noon. Last year’s event, the first ever Buskerfest in Weston, was a huge success so they hope to have the same this year. The buskers are world-class and will include Weston’s own, Scott Jackson who is an award-winning beat-boxer. Super entertaining!
The next night on Sunday, July 29th is Theatre in the Park with the Driftwood Theatre Co. presenting their version of ‘As You Like It’ or ‘Rosalynde’ by Shakespeare in Little Avenue Memorial Park. Show begins at 7:30 but arrive early with a picnic to get a great seat! Last year’s show of ‘Othello’ was packed and it was great to see our lovely park well used.
Join the community in celebrating our great country down at Lions Park beginning at 5pm. Lots of activities and entertainment until the big show… always a great night!
