yay Mark!

From August through to October 16 2011, Courage Canada Founder Mark DeMontis inline skated from Pier 21 in Halifax to Toronto in support of Courage Canada. Mark skated roughly 50-70km per day for a 9 week (64 day) journey across five provinces to arrive in his hometown Toronto at Weston Lions Arena on Saturday.  He was met by hundreds of his supporters, including all our local politicians.  He gave a rousing speech – the part about “I skated home to the best place ever- Weston!”  (okay some liberties there…. he said something like that…. but it was hard to hear over the din!)

The annual Weston Memorial Fun Fair was held on Thursday, June 2, from 6–8 pm.

The theme for this year was “Go Wild” and by the looks of things, this community event did just that (In the eyes of 7 year old Leif Evenson, ”this was the best night of my life”).  The weather was perfect, the bbq was sold out and the baking was yummy.  Everyone that wanted one got a turn in the bouncy castle.  A great many people opened their wallets for the raffle and a great silent auction.  All proceeds went to benefit the school literacy programs and other extracurricular activities.  Go Stars!!!
